New Art Gallery Fabrics

August 4, 2009

We are excited to tell you about a new-to-our-store fabric company — Art Gallery Fabrics! Our first order from Art Gallery Fabrics has arrived. The Botanica collection is a gorgeous collections of florals and smaller prints in greens, browns, salmons, and off-white. The fabrics have a soft yet crisp feel; they sew and press beautifully with very little fraying!

We have made a sample quilt using the Botanica fabrics.

We currently have Botanica yardage as well as bundles to make up this quilt. With a purchase of the bundle, you’ll receive a free pattern for our sample quilt. Bundles are $39.99 and the quilt is approximately 55″ x 70″. We’ve added an optional narrow border.

We think you’ll love Art Gallery Fabrics for quilting and sewing. We’ve seen gorgeous garments made up in Art Gallery Fabrics. Stop in and touch the fabrics and you’ll see what we mean!

Her latest one is “Garden.”

We curently have kits for all of the small quilts you see here — they range in price from $6 to $6.50 depending on any extras that are included (limited quantities). They are all designed to fit the same sized quilt hanger which we also have in stock.  The letters are fused with hand buttonhole stitching finishing the edges. Make some for yourself — these are also wonderful to make for someone else! Stop in today and pick up a quick, fun project that you can take along!

We Love Gelato!

July 30, 2009

Well, we love gelato as a frozen treat, but we also love fabric Gelato! The Gelato fabrics are gorgeous cotton ombres that are part of the Cara Collection from E.E. Schenck.

gelato

It’s hard to photograph the Gelato fabrics and fully capture their radiance. We currently have two quilts from Michigan designer Mary Lou Hallenbeck that use these fabrics to great effect. The quilts will be leaving the store very soon, so we hope you will stop in and see them!

Orbital View (we have kits for this one)

Orbital_Viewnew

The Orbital View quilt is approx. 60″ x 68″. Kits are $68 and include Mary Lou Hallenbeck’s ingenious pattern (the circles are cut from the squares, the blocks are seamed and the circles are then appliqued back onto the squares) and fabrics to make this quilt of soothing colors.

Constellation Cabin

Constellation Cabin

We have patterns and yardage for Constellation Cabin. This is another great method in which you sew simple log cabin blocks and then cut them to make the various wedge shapes in the blocks.

We have made another circle quilt with a variety of Gelato squares.

2gelato circles

Kits of squares for this quilt are $22 and include enough squares to make 70+ blocks (our quilt is approx. 38″ x 55″).

In the next post, we’ll show you a quick way to prepare circles for applique — either for this quilt or any other circle applique project.

Summer is (finally) heating up, stop by and get some Gelato today!

“Getting Ready for Christmas in July” Sale

May 28, 2009

Add us to your “fun things to do” list! Please join us:

June 18-21, 2009

for a “Getting Ready for Christmas in July” Sale!!

We are making room for lots of new Christmas fabrics that will be arriving SOON, so join us for great discounts on fabrics as well as snacks and door prizes.

You’ll also want to come in during the sale to see lots of great new items arriving daily from our trip to Spring Quilt Market! We have a large order of Maywood Studios’ Woolies flannels — these are the gorgeous flannels that look like wool. You can see Woolies here. We’ve had them in the past, they’ve always flown out the door. We also ordered several bolts of that great black houndstooth.

We’re also adding to our wool selection. We saw so many trims and embellishments that are great for wool projects –– we’ve re-stocked many Sue Spargo books and patterns to inspire you in your wool endeavors. Many of Sue’s designs are great take-along projects because her wool applique is whipstitched. And, trust us, it’s never too hot for a fun wool project!

We’re also expecting our order of gorgeous large leather buttons — these would look great on so many projects from bags to garments to quilts! These are VERY unique!

And, you know you need some: giant rick-rack is coming in just about every color imaginable. This was a heavy trend for many quilt designers. We saw it everywhere!

Coming shortly and in time for our sale event are two fantastic quilts using Maywood Studios’ Gelato fabrics. We will have Orbital View 2 and Constellation Cabin on display. The Gelato fabrics are wonderful on their own, but the quilts will give you some ideas of how to use them. These quilts both have a Michigan connection as they were designed by Michigan designer Mary Lou Hallenbeck.

The Latest News

January 28, 2009

It’s another snowy day here in Michigan–but the sun is out and we’ll try not to complain too much. We have a number of things to tell you.

First, you can now see the stores’ 2009 Cabin Fever Shop Hop quilts over at the Cabin Fever Shop Hop blog. They’re looking so festive, and everyone is getting excited about the event.

There is still time to pick up your $20 passport to the shop hop! The bus is filling fast, so be sure to give us a call (248-541-8545) to check on available seating (the bus is $40).

We also wanted to remind you about our upcoming Super Bowl Sunday sale and class open house. You’ll also be able to see and sign up for our newest block of the month programs! Join us for savings and fun on Sunday, February 1 from noon to 3 pm.

Finally, on the fabric front, we are getting lots and lots of new fabrics in the store–we already mentioned the cheery new Moda fabrics and pre-cuts that have arrived. We also have some GORGEOUS new Westminster florals designed by Philip Jacobs. In addition, we received some of Brandon Mably’s first designs. For those of you who have been looking for Valentine’s Day fabrics, we have most of ours grouped in the middle of the store, and they are looking particularly perky in the middle of a cold winter. Oh, and before I forget, we received some lovely reproduction brown and pink prints last week–they are so pretty and remind us of our very popular brown and pink star quilt.

You’ll want to stop in and check out what’s new!
