The Latest Fabrics

February 22, 2009

First, we’d like to thank all of the shop hoppers who helped make the 2009 Cabin Fever Shop Hop a success! We had a great time and hope you did too. You can see the winners over at the Cabin Fever Shop Hop blog–congratulations to all!

We’ve been receiving lots of great new fabrics lately. Here are some highlights.

You’re sure to love Valori Wells’ new Urban Flannels featuring two great colorways and lots of fun prints. We don’t need to tell you that we LOVE the bird print, but that lion is adorable too!

Next we have great collections from two new fabric designers.

These are Patty Young’s Andalucia fabrics from Michael Miller.

Paula Prass’s  Flights of Fancy, also from Michael Miller, is a spring-y delight:

We have additional Flights of Fancy prints in the blue/green colorway.

If you like these, be sure to pop over to the Michael Miller web site and take a look at the free patterns for these two fabric collections. The Andalucia pattern is a striking and easy strip quilt. The Flights of Fancy quilt looks like a lot of fun too!

Stop by soon–we’ll be happy to help you plan a project with these popular new fabrics!

Lots to of Sweet New Things!

February 9, 2009

We are getting ready for the 2009 Cabin Fever Shop Hop starting Thursday, February 12 – Saturday, February 14! We hope many of you will be able to join us for lots of fun.

We thought we’d give you a preview of some of the great things we have in store (and in the store) for you.

First, we have a preview of our design alternative for the shop hop fabrics. Remember, if you participate and collect the progressive quilt fabrics and patterns, you’ll have a wonderful bundle of black and white fabrics and gorgeous marbled fabrics. Lori designed this quilt and we will have pattern and border fabric kits available during the shop hop.

Isn’t it great? We do not yet know the price.

We also have some “sweet” treats for you:

table

Lots of fabric cupcakes, donuts and kisses!

To look sweet while you’re whipping up these treats, we have lots of great apron patterns and some very fun apron kits:

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, we have Valentine’s charm packs that come complete with a heart template so you can make yourself a QUICK Valentine’s quilt like ours:

hearts

A lovely new Around the Block sample (you can take a class with Patti and learn to make this quilt) is hanging–don’t the colors make you think of spring?

We will also have kits for this Pretty in Pink quilt designed by Anka’s Treasures:

So, even if you’re not a shop hopper, please stop in and see our sweet new things in person!

The Latest News

January 28, 2009

It’s another snowy day here in Michigan–but the sun is out and we’ll try not to complain too much. We have a number of things to tell you.

First, you can now see the stores’ 2009 Cabin Fever Shop Hop quilts over at the Cabin Fever Shop Hop blog. They’re looking so festive, and everyone is getting excited about the event.

There is still time to pick up your $20 passport to the shop hop! The bus is filling fast, so be sure to give us a call (248-541-8545) to check on available seating (the bus is $40).

We also wanted to remind you about our upcoming Super Bowl Sunday sale and class open house. You’ll also be able to see and sign up for our newest block of the month programs! Join us for savings and fun on Sunday, February 1 from noon to 3 pm.

Finally, on the fabric front, we are getting lots and lots of new fabrics in the store–we already mentioned the cheery new Moda fabrics and pre-cuts that have arrived. We also have some GORGEOUS new Westminster florals designed by Philip Jacobs. In addition, we received some of Brandon Mably’s first designs. For those of you who have been looking for Valentine’s Day fabrics, we have most of ours grouped in the middle of the store, and they are looking particularly perky in the middle of a cold winter. Oh, and before I forget, we received some lovely reproduction brown and pink prints last week–they are so pretty and remind us of our very popular brown and pink star quilt.

You’ll want to stop in and check out what’s new!

Happy New Year and New Blocks of the Month

January 6, 2009

We hope you’re having great start to 2009 that includes time for quilting!

We’ve been working on a lot of things including info on new classes, new blocks of the month and, last but certainly not least, the 2009 Cabin Fever Shop Hop––February 12-14, 2009! You know you’d love a little road trip, right?! Passports are $20 and get you access to sales at all the shops, drawings for prizes, a project tote and pin. Don’t forget that this year part of the proceeds will go to C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital to recognize National Heart Month.

We are planning to have a bus on Thursday, February 12 CHANGED TO FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 13, but we need to have folks sign up to make sure we have enough interest to warrant a bus. The bus trip is $40–and if the October shop hop bus is any indication, a GREAT time will be had by all! SO, gather your friends, forget about winter weather worries and sign up for the bus!

For all the details, you can see our previous post on the shop hop OR click on over to the new blog dedicated to information on the Cabin Fever Shop Hop. We will have photos of the stores’ quilts sometime in the next few weeks–that will be very exciting!

On to the new blocks of the month! We have four new monthly programs–three of them are monthly kits with patterns and one is a fun new club called the Pretend Piecing Club.

We have a few other blocks of the month we are still preparing, we will let you know about those as soon as we know when those will start.

For January–and the first Wednesday of the month is “block day,” so that means you can pick these up starting on Wednesday, January 7, 2009–we have:

Antique Medallion Block of the Month in Two Colorways
This seven month project is based on an antique quilt from Wales. We are offering it in reproductions AND in Kaffe/Westminster fabrics. The quilt will finish to 70″ x 90″ and features a Lemoyne star block in the center (don’t worry, this is the only block with Y-seams). The center is surrounded by rows that alternate among Ohio star blocks, wedge-piece circles and charming flowers petals. These quilts will be very scrappy with one solid background color. The repro colorway uses a buttery yellow solid, and the Kaffe/Westminster colorway uses a light green solid. Here are the center blocks for each of the colorways:

Bird in Hand
This is a beauty! Pieced blocks combine with applique blocks to gorgeous effect:

birdinhandbom

The quilt is so large that we couldn’t get a picture of the whole thing–we’ll try to post the full pic as soon as we can!

Monthly/Seasonal Wallhanging
Looking for a small quilt to brighten up a space in your home? This is a great program of small hangings that all fit on the adorable optional metal hanger:

letitsnow1

Come and see the block of the month samples in person and get all the details on costs and program length.

Finally, as we previously mentioned, the Pretend Piecing Club is starting as well. The first meetings will be held on:

Monday, February 2, 2009 – 6 pm
Tuesday, February 3, 2009 – 10 am

pretend-piecing-feb

The Pretend Piecing Club features a series of 12 mini quilts with a different block design each month that uses fusible applique and hand buttonhole stitching. These adorable wallhangings are designed to hang on charming metal hangers. Each month’s mini quilt design will be available in two different colorways–one is traditional and the other is bright and bold!

The Pretend Piecing Club will meet monthly with demonstrations and instruction for Patti’s Pretend Piecing. Club members who attend the meeting will also receive special hand-outs, a tasty recipe, a discount on the featured colors of perle cotton, show and tell and a chance to win a door prize!

If you register for the Pretend Piecing Club, pay for and attend the meeting, your fabric kit will be included in the $5 monthly fee and will be reserved for you.

Check out the Classes page for all dates and times.

So, we have lots going on with more to come! Stop and see us soon!

Bundle Up and Join Us!

February 7, 2007

Of course, I’m referring to the 2007 Cabin Fever Shop Hop that starts Thursday, February 8 and lasts through Saturday, February 10! Don’t let a little winter chill get you down, it’s warm inside the store. And, frankly, after two days without school, some of us may have a little more cabin fever than others.

The employees are equally excited about a quilting challenge we will be unveiling for the shop hop too! Our challenge was to use some of every piece of the Regency Dandy fabric line designed by Gerald Roy for Windham/Baum. These reproductions of 1810 fabrics are the brightest “old” fabrics we’ve seen. We will have fat quarter bundles available should any of these “dandy” quilts suit your fancy.

So, see you at the shop hop!
