Stitcher’s Garden Block of the Month

August 16, 2009

Our beautiful batik Stitcher’s Garden Block of the Month program is now up to month five. The program is based on Lynda Howell’s (of The Stitch Connection) Stitcher’s Garden pattern. We wanted to share with you the blocks so far either to entice you to sign up (there are still a few places left in this popular program!) or to show color/fabric placement for those who are already making the blocks. We will add a page dedicated to the program and will add photos of all future blocks there. For those who are interested in signing up, this is a 12-month program, and the cost is $8 per month. This does not include your background fabric.

Also, don’t forget that Cindy offers a workshop on the blocks, should you need assistance with a particular technique. The next workshop is Tuesday, August 18 from 6 to 9 pm. Please give us a call if you would like to sign up or have questions about the workshop or the block of the month program. Without further ado, here are the blocks so far.

Programs that have already begun…

Father Christmas Sampler–an original design that is sure to become a family heirloom! This is an 11-month program. For each month, you’ll receive fabrics and patterns for a large and a small block. The first months will cost approximately $7-$8. The final months will be $25 each because of the quantity of fabrics involved in finishing. Stop in and see the color layout/artwork for this amazing quilt.

Antique Medallion Block of the Month in Two Colorways
This seven month project is based on an antique quilt from Wales. We are offering it in reproductions AND in Kaffe/Westminster fabrics. The quilt will finish to 70″ x 90″ and features a Lemoyne star block in the center (don’t worry, this is the only block with Y-seams). The center is surrounded by rows that alternate among Ohio star blocks, wedge-piece circles and charming flowers petals. These quilts will be very scrappy with one solid background color. The repro colorway uses a buttery yellow solid, and the Kaffe/Westminster colorway uses a light green solid. Here are the center blocks for each of the colorways:

The quilt is so large that we couldn’t get a picture of the whole thing–we’ll try to post the full pic as soon as we can!

Monthly/Seasonal Wallhanging
Looking for a small quilt to brighten up a space in your home? This is a great program of small hangings that all fit on the adorable optional metal hanger:

Finally, as we previously mentioned, the Pretend Piecing Club is starting as well. The first meetings will be held on:

Monday, April 6, 2009 – 6 -7 pm
Tuesday, April 7, 2009 – 10 – 11 am

pretend-piecing-feb

The Pretend Piecing Club features a series of 12 mini quilts with a different block design each month that uses fusible applique and hand buttonhole stitching. These adorable wallhangings are designed to hang on charming metal hangers. Each month’s mini quilt design will be available in two different colorways–one is traditional and the other is bright and bold!

The Pretend Piecing Club will meet monthly with demonstrations and instruction for Patti’s Pretend Piecing. Club members who attend the meeting will also receive special hand-outs, a tasty recipe, a discount on the featured colors of perle cotton, show and tell and a chance to win a door prize!

If you register for the Pretend Piecing Club, pay for and attend the meeting, your fabric kit will be included in the $5 monthly fee and will be reserved for you.

Check out the Classes page for all dates and times.

The Latest News

January 28, 2009

It’s another snowy day here in Michigan–but the sun is out and we’ll try not to complain too much. We have a number of things to tell you.

First, you can now see the stores’ 2009 Cabin Fever Shop Hop quilts over at the Cabin Fever Shop Hop blog. They’re looking so festive, and everyone is getting excited about the event.

There is still time to pick up your $20 passport to the shop hop! The bus is filling fast, so be sure to give us a call (248-541-8545) to check on available seating (the bus is $40).

We also wanted to remind you about our upcoming Super Bowl Sunday sale and class open house. You’ll also be able to see and sign up for our newest block of the month programs! Join us for savings and fun on Sunday, February 1 from noon to 3 pm.

Finally, on the fabric front, we are getting lots and lots of new fabrics in the store–we already mentioned the cheery new Moda fabrics and pre-cuts that have arrived. We also have some GORGEOUS new Westminster florals designed by Philip Jacobs. In addition, we received some of Brandon Mably’s first designs. For those of you who have been looking for Valentine’s Day fabrics, we have most of ours grouped in the middle of the store, and they are looking particularly perky in the middle of a cold winter. Oh, and before I forget, we received some lovely reproduction brown and pink prints last week–they are so pretty and remind us of our very popular brown and pink star quilt.

You’ll want to stop in and check out what’s new!

Happy New Year and New Blocks of the Month

January 6, 2009

We hope you’re having great start to 2009 that includes time for quilting!

We’ve been working on a lot of things including info on new classes, new blocks of the month and, last but certainly not least, the 2009 Cabin Fever Shop Hop––February 12-14, 2009! You know you’d love a little road trip, right?! Passports are $20 and get you access to sales at all the shops, drawings for prizes, a project tote and pin. Don’t forget that this year part of the proceeds will go to C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital to recognize National Heart Month.

We are planning to have a bus on Thursday, February 12 CHANGED TO FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 13, but we need to have folks sign up to make sure we have enough interest to warrant a bus. The bus trip is $40–and if the October shop hop bus is any indication, a GREAT time will be had by all! SO, gather your friends, forget about winter weather worries and sign up for the bus!

For all the details, you can see our previous post on the shop hop OR click on over to the new blog dedicated to information on the Cabin Fever Shop Hop. We will have photos of the stores’ quilts sometime in the next few weeks–that will be very exciting!

On to the new blocks of the month! We have four new monthly programs–three of them are monthly kits with patterns and one is a fun new club called the Pretend Piecing Club.

We have a few other blocks of the month we are still preparing, we will let you know about those as soon as we know when those will start.

For January–and the first Wednesday of the month is “block day,” so that means you can pick these up starting on Wednesday, January 7, 2009–we have:
